The GOLDEN Rule

THE GOLDEN RULE. What makes it so golden? It dates back as early as 1800 BC. Throughout time it has been used in many philosophies, cultures and religions. It comes from the idea that we can better connect with others by first understanding ourselves. It’s especially useful for children who begin life with only a sense of self and little by little begin to grasp the concept of considering the feelings of others. It helps us show up authentically. But, what if we treat others how we would want to be treated and they don’t accept it? Does that mean we failed? Absolutely not. Showing up for others in the way that feels authentic to you is a beautiful gift. If someone doesn’t want that gift, it doesn’t mean it is any less valuable. It simply means they don’t understand it’s value. It is in no way a reflection on the giver.
