Self-Esteem vs. Conceit

I was brought up to believe that if I spoke highly of myself I was bragging. I quickly learned to modestly keep it to myself and pretend that I was unaware of how amazing and gifted I was. This soon turned into not even knowing how to accept compliments from others and in fact feeling like I should turn them down.

Even though I know better now, it still instinctively comes up now and then. But, I am practicing celebrating my gifts and enjoying talking about them. I encourage others to do the same. Conceit is when you think you are better than someone else but positive self-esteem is when you know you are incredible and you recognize how incredible everyone else is too.

You start to understand that we all bring dynamic, powerful beauty to this world by embracing the wonderful inside of us and letting it shine. There is no limit to how bright we can make it when we all share our light.
